Unveiling of the Monument to the 1st Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers Zandvoorde, Belgium
Jonathon Riley attended the 100th anniversary and unveiling of RWF monument to the destruction of the 1st Battalion of the Regiment at the first battle of Ypres, October 1914, in coordination with the Household Cavalry.
Over the course of 20 days of ferocious German shelling during the first battle of Ypres, the battalion was annihilated. A total of 1,264 men were killed in the countryside around Ypres.
